The Church of the Annunciation located in the city center of Nazareth, near the entrance to the market. It is one of the hallmarks of the city of Nazareth. According to the Christian Faith church was built over the cave where Mary lived and where she was visited by the Angel Gabriel on the Immaculate Conception.
The current church was built in 1969 and it incorporates the remains of earlier churches built on this site. The lower level of the church is the grotto where the remains of Byzantine chapel and Crusader. The upper level is the great prayer hall decorated grand mosaics donated by Christian communities in countries of the world. Church doors inlaid with bronze and copper, and above them are sculptures of important figures in Christianity. Dome shaped white lily flower is identified with Mary, and reaches a height of nearly two hundred feet above the cave.
