Tel Aviv Port  was constructed in 1938 in Tel Aviv, the first Jewish city. The port was built during the Arab Revolt in 1936-1938 against the increase of Jewish immigration and settlement in Israel under British Mandate. During the revolt, the Arabs declared a general strike which halted all activity at Jaffa Port. As the port was used for export by the Hebrew settlements, for the most part, citrus fruit, the leaders of the Jewish settlement organizations with the help of the British Mandate authorities decided to build a port in Tel Aviv. The Tel Aviv port operated until 1965 when the port of Ashdod, a new modern port, began operation. The area of the port remained closed and abandoned until 2001 when restoration began, and the site has been turned into a shopping and recreation center. The area faces the sea waves breaking on the unique wooden boardwalk, equipped with seating areas and dozens of places to eat, along with a roofed market containing food products from all over the country, clothing and sports shops, and on summer evenings, frequent musical performances take place.​
