Nahalat Benyamin Street has been well-known for years for its many textile shops, quite a few of which are still operating today. In the near vicinity, fashion houses enjoy the proximity of the wide range of fabric choices. Along the street, there are many eclectic buildings constructed in the 1920s and some have tile decorations in the art nouveau style. From 1985, the street was closed to vehicular traffic and since then a unique arts and crafts fair has taken place twice weekly. The fair represents the    vision of the Tel Aviv Municipality to preserve the traditions of handicrafts which are becoming extinct in the age of technology and industry. The municipal acceptance committee, made up of artists and artisans in a variety of areas, use strict criteria to check the artistic abilities of those who want to participate in the fair.  Original handicrafts which must be made by the artist or artisan him/herself, is one of the basic conditions which are used by the acceptance committee. The fair includes statues, drawings and paintings, and other artistic items sold by the artists and artisans who made them. This unique and colorful fair attracts many tourists from Israel and from abroad..​​
