Tel Aviv - Jaffa Port

Jaffa Port is considered one of the oldest in the world. It is mentioned in the Book of Jonah as the port from which Jonah fled to Tarshish. For thousands of years the port has served fishermen, merchants, pilgrims, conquerors and immigrants who entered and left from it. After the State of Israel was established, and since the opening of Ashdod Port in November 1965, ship loading and unloading has been halted at Jaffa Port as well as at Tel Aviv Port. Jaffa Port has been left for the use of fishermen and after years of neglect, the area has become a recent tourist spot. Guided tours and group sailing excursions leave from the port and there are restaurants, bars, a fish market and permanent and changing art gallery exhibitions
