Bar'am forest reserve, which covers about a thousand acres, is an extraordinary site in Israel. Here lies a broad natural Mediterranean woodland of common oak, whose trees had grown to very large dimensions relatively to other places. Inside the woodland are thickets and heavy shades that keep it cool and refreshing in the summer. The woodland is preserved and had never undergone a resection before, probably because it was owned by the Maronite Church. Under the tree shades grow many climbers and in winter grow many species of fungi. A trip to the cool, damp woods is recommended in all seasons, in fall we enjoy the colorful defoliation and geophytes that precursor rain, in winter we enjoy wild mushrooms and carpets of primroses and anemones, in spring the sun-exposed forest edges are covered with carpets of colorful spring blossoms.In the woodland was marked a beautiful circular hiking trail, four kilometers long, which takes about two to three hours to complete and is suitable for all ages.In order to reach the walking trail's starting point it is recommended to travel two kilometers along Highway 899 from Hiram Junction, pass the left turn to Baram National Park and reach Rabin parking lot. Many of the forest's parts were planted by the Jewish National Fund with the help of Leah and Yitzhak Rabin's friends' donations, after the late prime minister finished his term as ambassador in Washington, in the 70's.In front of the parking lot looms the Baram Watchtower on the top of Mount Shifra, at 743 meters above sea level, which overlooks the spectacular views of the Baram forests and their surrounding: Mount Meron, Alonei Baram Forest Reserve, Mount Adir, Mount Hiram, Gush Halav Hills, Ramat Dalton and the volcanic mounds of the North Heights.After the magnificent sighting we will cross the road to Rabin parking lot and continue south on a dirt trail marked in blue. After about 300 meters of travel in a pine forest planted by the Jewish National Fund the "blue" trail sharply curls to the right, at the meeting point with the trail marked in black. Here we will part with our vehicle and start walking along the black trail that begins at the edge of the forest and after about one kilometer descends through the wooded area to Tzivon Creek, marked in red. We will continue down the creek, about a kilometer to the meeting point with the blue marking and climb about half a mile up the ravine to the meeting point with the black marking, near where we left our vehicle.
